Multi Grammy Award winning artist, Lauryn Hill, has been confirmed to perform at this year’s Cape Town International Jazz Festival taking place on 30 and 31 March. The announcement comes shortly after RnB/Soul musician, Jill Scott, pulled out of the jazz festival due to a conflicting movie role schedule.
Hill, who was a member of Hip Hop group, The Fugees, launched her solo career with the release of her critically acclaimed album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, in 1998. The record earned her a staggering five Grammy Awards and a reputation as the best female MC of her generation.
After a long hiatus, Hill returned to the spotlight in 2011, touring extensively across the United States. According to reports, she will perform on the famous Kippies stage at the jazz festival on Saturday, 31 March.
“We are extremely excited about the addition of Ms. Lauryn Hill. She is an exceptional artist and festival goers can expect a sensational show. She completes a line-up of world class acts that audiences have come expect from the festival,” says espAfrika CEO, Rashid Lombard.
Known as Africa’s Grandest Gathering, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival has grown hugely successful since its inception in 2000 and continues to thrill music lovers from all over South Africa.
