Fall of 2012 is elections time in the United States of America. Will be an easy win for the Democrats because Romney is an unelectable nominee. But is it right?
Obama is a weak president not in every aspect, but let’s see his presidency.
He did some interesting things like repealing DADT, supporting GLBT marriage, stopped defending DOMA, killed bin Laden, pulled out from Iraq, will pull out from Afghanistan, killed prominent leaders of Al-qaeda. Also triggered some positive changes in the economy.
I need to admit, it’s a nice list. But just nice.
Repealing DADT and not defending DOMA is not enough; GLBT couples still can’t marry in every state, can’t adopt, or get the same rights as heterosexual couples. Though some states legalized same sex marriage, GLBT rights are ignored in several states. FAIL.
The Iraqi pullout and the future Afghan pull out will be great for the taxpayers, great for the troops and their families. But those to will be left alone. It’s true that it wasn’t Obama who started the wars and that the US economy and public can’t handle these things much longer, but actually nothing changed in these countries. After foreign troops will leave, both of them will be the nest of terrorism as it was before 9/11. Bush made a huge mistake. And now no one can repair these errors in the system. Both Iraq and Afghanistan are politically unstable, homeland terrorism is there every single day and terrorist groups presence can be confirmed too, though Obama uses his drones and the CIA wisely the case remains unsolved. The future of Baghdad and Kabul is unclear. FAIL also WIN for the US
The economic stimulus was a great decision just like the so called ‘Obamacare’. Created new jobs, saved the General Motors but and avoided double dip recession (referring to the UK with austerity measures).
But: the Bus-era tax breaks for the top 1% is still in use, No tax cuts for the middle class and the poor, the Republicans use Obama as a puppet with their majority in the House. Just think about the debt ceiling deal: We will say yes if you say yes to the extension of the Bush tax cuts. Deal. But who won? The Republicans, who represents the fatass rich people and corporations of America. The Congress is paralyzed. It’s not a surprise because it always needed years to do some actual work. But Obama got the ‘Shall not pass’ card from the GOP. They filibuster every single law by the president. They made Obama to play by their rules. Also the Obamacare is under microscope by the Justice League aka the Supreme Court. If they find it unconstitutional it’s over. Fail.
In foreign policy the Administration did some miracles: Intervention in Lybia, changes in Myanmar and Egypt, but failed the people of Syria. Big Deal.
On the other side the GOP found the most unelectable nominee for the 2012 elections: Mitt Romney. He’s a Mormon, he’s the rich guy who never worked a single day, has no experience in nothing but killing companies and firing people. Also he stands for everyone and every point of view for more or less time. He’s plastic, has no original ideas, not ready to govern a country, or even a state. Even the GOP field/voters say they won’t vote Romney.
What are his standpoints right now? Pro-life: defending life from the moment of impregnation. Pro-death penalty, ant-gay, anti-tax rising for the richest 1% which includes him, anti-healthcare, anti-DADT etc.
BIG FAIL.
Now I think and I would bet on this: Obama will get a second term. But my point of view is that he doesn’t deserve it. He’s too weak. But a good president and would be a good president if he acted the same way as he did in the bin Laden or the DADT question. Obama needs to be a badass president and he must use his second term to fundamentally change things in the US. He is capable to do this job. But will he act or will be the puppet of the Republicans?
Future will tell.
