Leah Marquet, 20, and Anne Kendzior, 22, have filed lawsuits against Former Secretary of Defence and other top officials for ‘systematically’ ignoring sexual assaults. They both claim they were raped and that the Pentagon did nothing to prevent it.
Former U.S service member, Marquet, alleges she was raped, after being forced to get drunk, by a fellow cadet and then ordered to take out her attacker’s trash as punishment for reporting the assault to the military school.
Another service member, Kendzior, claims she was raped twice by two fellow students at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. She states she was drunk on both occasions. She alleges she was subsequently made to drop out after she told an army counselor about the attacks.
They accuse the military of having a ‘high tolerance for sexual predators within their ranks’. The lawsuit was filed as they claim their careers were ruined after these attacks, especially as promises to take further action were reneged upon.
These women are the latest in a string of former and current U.S service members who are suing military officials for systematically ignoring a ‘staggering’ number of sexual assaults.
