Five crew of a boat were missing off the Hainan province after their vessel sank in strong winds.

A rescue centre in Sanya in Hainan said that it received reports around 6 a.m. about the crew clinging to the deck of a sinking vessel.

A search was launched for the missing crew involving rescue vessels and helicopters.

Typhoon Son-Tinh hit China Saturday after wrecking havoc in the Philippines, where it killed at least 27 people.
